Hood River News reports that hometown hospital Providence Hood River Memorial (OR) gained national recognition for its “Greening the OR” efforts. The hospital has reprocessed nearly 3,300 pounds of surgical items that would otherwise ended up in a landfill. The hospital also increased recycling by nearly 20 percent.
The article quotes Brandi Gustafson, green team chairwoman for the hospital, who credited the team’s success to the many champions in the OR — including environmental services team members — who diligently recycle everything possible and help each team member to participate, adding “Last year we worked really hard to optimize our single-use device reprocessing program.”
Earning a spot among the ranks of the most sustainable hospitals in the nation, Providence Hood River Memorial Hospital was recently named a 2017 Circle of Excellence Honoree for Greening the OR by Practice Greenhealth. Read More.
