In a climate where health reform promises lower reimbursements in the future, The San Diego Union Tribune reports Scripps has assisted doctors in talking to one another to find ways to flex their purchasing power
In some cases, physicians from the same specialty can get together and agree to purchase the same sort of medical devices to use in their procedures, a practice that can help get a lower price from suppliers. In other instances, a group of doctors working alongside Scripps’ purchasing department, can agree not to use a certain version of device that has a price significantly more expensive than its competitors.
Since 2010 Cardiac lab reprocessing of single-use medical devices have achieved $346,000 in annual savings and kept more than 6,000 pounds of waste out of landfills.
