ABC15 Arizona: Gilbert Hospital Recognized for “Green” Operating Rooms (04/21/10):

In 2009, the hospital reduced its supply costs by $251,386 and reduced medical waste by 9,164 pounds through medical device remanufacturing and reprocessing, according to a news release.
“We live in an era of environmental responsibility,” said Penny Boone, Director of Perioperative Services at Banner Gateway. “The reprocessing and remanufacturing of single-use devices in operating rooms significantly reduces the amount of medical waste in our environment.”
Ascent Healthcare Solutions says that many healthcare facilities needlessly throw away delicate and often costly devices that the original manufacturer has marked as single-use.
