AMDR congratulates Becker’s Greenest hospitals and proud to see medical device reprocessing included in so many hospitals’ sustainability initiatives.

Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital (Downers Grove, Ill.). Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital received Practice Greenhealth’s Top 25 Environmental Excellence Award for a fifth consecutive year in 2018. In 2017, the hospital reduced its energy consumption by 2.9 percent, recycled 82 percent of its construction waste and saved $2.1 million by reprocessing medical devices. The hospital’s 200,000-square-foot expansion, which added three floors and 96 new private rooms, achieved LEED Silver certification in 2017. The building features low-flow fixtures, improved energy performance and sustainable building materials as well as landscaping with native plants to reduce irrigation needs. To increase employee sustainability engagement, Advocate Good Samaritan implemented organization wide programs geared toward paper and printing reduction and monthly “energy hours” to save energy and money.”
