Medical Device Network: US Regulator to Unveil Medical Device ID Rule

Medicaldevicenetwork.com reports that the US FDA is set to soon introduce its long-anticipated proposed rules for unique device identification (UDI).  MDN expects FDA’s proposal to be released in September, 2011.

Under the proposed rule, medical devices would be required to bear labels with a unique identifier, including lot and serial numbers, to identify the device throughout its distribution and use.
