Practice Greenhealth, a national nonprofit that promotes environmental responsibility in the health care sector, named Palomar Health’s two hospitals — Palomar Medical Center and Pomerado Hospital — among its 2012 environmental excellence award winners.
…In 2011, Palomar recycled 400 tons of municipal solid waste and saved 15 million gallons of water at Pomerado Hospital by installing a new central plant for heating and cooling.
Programs to reuse linens and reprocess medical devices are estimated to have eliminated for than 90,000 pounds of medical waste, according to the health care system.
